Read and Answer this questions. (400 words) As our textbook notes, the voter turnout rate in the US is much lower than that of other developed democracies. In response to this phenomenon, many political scientists argue that low voter turnout is caused by legal and institutional hurdles that prevent many would be voters from participating. Other political scientists contend that many Americans do not vote because they see little to gain from process, do not see real differences between parties/candidates, and that over all the public is apathetic, cynical, lazy and/or under-informed to the point that voting just is not worth the effort. Discuss what you think are the primary reasons why turnout in the US is so poor. If you think that turn out is low because of barriers to voting, discuss those that you think cause the biggest problems. If you think low turnout has more to do with cultural or societal forces today, talk about these things in a specific manner. Regardless of your answer, do you think that government (state or federal) should invest greater effort and resources into further increasing voter turnout? What approaches might work?
