Instructions
The Final Research Paper will give students the ability to demonstrate application of geographical tools and theories. Students will have an opportunity to think critically about course materials and their own research materials, and synthesize these materials in a way that allows them to see the world in a different way. The Final Research Paper will also give students the opportunity to produce a scholarly piece of writing based on a topic of their own choosing.
1. For the Final Research Paper, build on the first four parts of the Research Project assignment to produce a well-organized, scholarly research paper.
2. In addition to the sources used for the annotated bibliography, you should gather additional data from a variety of sources (e.g., newspaper articles, census data, business reports, government documents, etc.).
3. You may want to return to your field excursion site to make and record more observations. Dates and times of these observations should be recorded clearly.
4. The Final Research Paper should be formatted like a research article in an academic journal. You are encouraged to use journal articles as guides for formatting their essays, bearing in mind there are many different ways to format journal articles.
5. The Research Papers must not simply add on the sections from the first parts of the Research Project but rather incorporate these materials to produce a well-written essay. Although components of a paper can be arranged very differently, the following elements must be included in the final submission.
· data: data must be presented in a format that is legible, meaningful, suitable for the data type, and consistent with the style of the paper;
· analysis: it is not enough to simply state results. Results must be analyzed and discussed, making connections to the theoretical framework used;
· visual representation: all papers should have at least one map of the study area as well as one or more photographs. Papers can also use tables, charts, graphs, sketches, and other forms of visual representation that contribute to data presentation and analysis.
The Final Research Paper should include the following sections clearly identified using headings. Please note that sections do not have to use these titles; they can be more imaginative and descriptive. Please also note that different sections might be combined depending on the style and flow of the report:
1. Introduction: describes the research topic; may include a map; should include a research question or problem statement, as well as an argument; should indicate briefly the theory being used; should set up the rest of the paper.
2. Methods: briefly describes the methods used to gather data; can include a map; can include references to methods literature if used, including the course textbook if used.
3. Theory: includes a discussion of the theoretical lens used and a review of the literature used for the study; links the theory to the research question.
4. Results: describes the observations made (tables, charts, and diagrams can be included as necessary).
5. Analysis and discussion: link results to the theory in a scholarly way that helps the reader to understand the phenomena being studied; may challenge existing literature and propose something new.
6. Conclusion: briefly restates what the essay did and points to what other interesting work could be done; may include limitations; elegantly concludes the paper.

I wanted to get up early to do my excursion yesterday on the 30th of July and explore Stanley park but, again couldn’t get up from bed until 10pm, which is so usual in this pandemic. I had no energy to make breakfast for me so instead of eating at home, I decided to do breakfast at a restaurant nearby my house. I went to Brodeurs Bistro, I ordered chicken burger, lettuce wraps and waffles with maple syrup for my brunch , my bill was $35 including tax and tip.

I must say the food was delicious, Brodeurs is my favorite place to eat, I went there after couple of weeks due to the pandemic going on, I noticed several changes at the restaurant, I was supposed to give my contact number and name before getting seated just so anything happens at the restaurant, they can give me a call back to isolate, then the flowers were marked with directions and I was supposed to enter and exit from the different doors, which I appreciate very much. Also, not every table was open for the service and guests now prefer using mobile friendly menus rather than the hard copy, I must say people are trying to get out of the covid-19 outbreak, but are still very scared at the same time.
Then without wasting anymore time I reached Stanley Park, I have been to Stanley Park various times before, and my favourite place to see there is Seawall, I have never seen such beautiful view ever before in my life, it has amazing views of the ocean, downtown vancouver, tall buildings and the mountains, the cold breeze air made me feel even more relaxed and happy. I don’t know if I just felt it or the quality of air has become better over the past couple of months, as people were so resistant to go out and leave their place with any emergency due to the pandemic. I could hear the birds chirping, singing songs, I sensed a strong feeling of being at a place full of nature and fresh air, the tiny waves in the beach water looked like it was dancing as the birds sang.
I was amazed by the beauty of the place, Stanley Park is the place where you can go and enjoy at the weekends even when you don’t have much money to spend. I must say, the atmosphere was not same as before, I went last time in March, as the parks were also closed for tourist visit to limit the spread of Covid-19, when I went last time, there was a huge gathering of people, people were playing music and dancing, kids were playing in the park, there was hardly any space to step in on the beach side area, but this time, there were many less people who came to visit the park. Of course, I am familiar with the fact why they were not there? But still it was unbelievable to see such a popular place with very few people. You might want to look at my amazing sketch that I drew at the beach.
Yes, it was exactly like what you are looking at, people were sitting far from each other, were not passing through the same route at the same time, I must say social distancing was being followed very strictly ( thank me later for the amazing drawing, nothing much I just got some real talent!!!). Coming back to the point, not only few people and social distancing, the major factor that I would love to share is- I could see very less number of young children or older people at the park, I really appreciate that people have taken the pandemic seriously and are taking steps accordingly, it feels very good to know that people have realized the importance of family, they tend to spend more time at home with younger and older ones, but don’t prefer them bringing out much as they know the fact that they might have weaker immune system which would leave them no chance of fighting if the virus if they get one!
Also, it is not certain that teenagers or the working population cares about themselves and don’t come out, I guess people also understand that they live with younger and older people, and don’t want to give them the virus, and don’t want them to feel bad or weak by leaving them back at home, which could also be a reason that there were many less people who came to the park.
At the end, I must say not just the EARTH, families are healing as well. One of the beautiful consequences of the pandemic, well, I never thought this excursion would force me to think so deep and come up with many critical reasons, I am amazed by this idea of learning I must say. I literally was sitting, staring at the water and thinking of all this stuff. At one point of time I felt like I am in some other world, away from all the tensions and chaos in my life, what an amazing experience it was. For the very first time, I also noticed the clouds in the have different shapes, though I also found a cloud looking like a donut, may be I was hungry by that time, when I checked the time it was 4.45pm, it was time to go, I don’t know how the time went so fast. I felt like staying, but life is life, it keeps on running, and time is time one must have to obey it.

The field excursion was done in Stanley Park, located in downtown Vancouver, Canada, one of the famous tourist attraction spots.
The study site is the same, Stanley Park. The research topic is how long will people be living the same life? Afraid from each other. The fact that people have now realized the importance of being by each other’s side, families have come together, people have started realizing that health is more important than wealth, but I wonder for how long would this all stay? Will people still be thankful to each and everything they have when the pandemic is over?
What will the world look like by 2030? As we know most of the businesses, including schools, colleges, doctors and customer service are gone online which seems like we are living in a robotic world, businesses are saving a lot of money due to the same reason, would it make them go online forever? How would the world look like after the pandemic or when will the pandemic be over?
Will there be more parks built in the future than retail and the fancy restaurants? What about nature, nature is healing but for how long would it be the same?
