American psychological association (APA)
According to the American Psychological Association, (2017) APA was a small organization before and during the world war two founded in 1892 having just 31members working for the organization. However, after the world war two the company grew and is now the largest organization dealing with science and psychology in the united states. In the psychology field, the organization has 54 divisions with more than 115,700 educators, researchers, consultants and students. American Psychological Association, (2017) noted that there were some factors which led to the growth of psychology in the united states after the world war two which are; Many servicemen who were at the world war noted that there was a need for improved psychological services during war. Moreover, there was also a need to make psychology a field of research and training in the united states which would be funded by the government and as one of the researchers called it, the was the golden age of psychology.
According to the American Psychological Association, (2017) the mission of the organization is to create, communicate and apply scientific knowledge which is aimed at benefiting the society and improving the livelihoods of the people. The organization does this by; first, the organization encourages the development and usage of psychology as much as possible so as to promote its public awareness and also improving the popularity of the organization. secondly, the organization ensures that it lives up to the society’s expectation by ensuring that all their psychologist and other workers maintain work ethics, good conduct and reaching the targets set by the organization. The society benefits from the existence and services of the company in that they are able to read reports, discussions and publications published by the organization and this helps them to increase their psychological knowledge.
The American psychological association aims at improving psychology and using it as a force to do some of the most important functions in the society which includes uniting people, making the organization as the main source of research for all psychologists and using science as a tool to promote the health of the people, their dignity and human rights. American Psychological Association, (2017) states that the APA company acts as a good example to other organizations and the society by promoting core values. To begin with, the company upholds work ethics among the workers and the administration in every situation the company is involved in, the company also maintains its image by providing the best services to the society and also keeping the company standards high by their continuous pursuit of excellence in their services. Additionally, the organization is a major advocate of social and ethical values such as social values and diversity which showcases its importance to the society.
The American psychological association has goals aimed at satisfying the society, the members and the government. According to American Psychological Association, (2017) some of these goals include maximizing the company’s effectiveness by increasing their introducing more programs to engage more with their members and finally, the company also helps the society by expanding their psychological role in health.
American Counseling Association (ACA)
The ACA has more than 56000 members who are chosen through voting which entails several qualifications. Moreover, the organization has 56 branches which are located in 4 regions. According toAmerican counseling association, (2017) professional counseling is a relationship which encourages individuals, groups and families to overcome or accomplish their health status, career goals, education and other factors which influence their lives either positively or negatively. The American counseling association is the largest organization that represents counselors in the world. Additionally, the ACA serves more than 55,000 members with their resources. The ACA professionals use publications, webinars, journals and educative sessions to get useful content which they use for counseling. The ACA has 20 divisions which are used show professional identity and strength to provide the need of the people in need of counseling in the society. Some of these divisions include the association for assessment ad research, association for adult development and aging and the association for creativity in counseling among others.
American counseling association, (2017) states that the mission of ACA is to improve the livelihoods of the people in the society by enhancing the growth of professional counselors as well as counseling humans for them to develop their diversity. The ACA aims at building an organization which is a comfortable working area to all professional counselors. The organization operates on a code of ethics with social justice being the main ethic so as to promote professional values in the counseling profession. The America counseling association has identified several institutions which act as a stronghold for their services and as a result, they have developed strategies to help them promote the profession in these areas. Some of these strategies include the client/student advocacy and empowerment, system advocacy, creating public awareness and providing the public with useful counseling information, and the final strategy is the social and political strategy which will help the organization reach as many people as possible.
According to American counseling association, (2017) ACA members are trained to resist any form of harassment or discrimination in the society. The members are assigned duties and given the go-ahead to protect both genders from any sort of harassment among the youths and adults. The American counseling association helps the society by assisting in the development of professional counselors for them to be successful in the counseling profession. The society is advised to make use of these counselors in order for them to promote their diversity. The main aim of the ACA members is to promote equity and fairness in all fields in the society in an aim to erase all immorality and injustice which mainly affect families and learning institutions. Some of the functions of the ACA include improving the way of life among people in the society, promoting respect between humans and enhancing the growth of professional counselors.
American School Counseling Association (ASCA)
American School Counseling Association (2017) states that the organization was founded in 1952 and has 50 divisions. Additionally, ASCA provides services such as research and advocacy, publications, professional development and other resources to more than 33,000 members who are school counselors around the world. The main aim for ASCA is to provide school professional counselors with useful knowledge and skills to assist in the growth of students at home, in the community and any place around the globe. ASCA proposes that the best ratio for students and professionals is one professional to attend to 250 students and this way, the professional is able to handle any issues arising from the students. According to American School Counseling Association, (2017) the mission for ASCA is to enhance good morals as well as promoting professionalism among the school counselors.
The American school counseling association was formed to help students in their academics and also assist them in their development in order to prepare them become responsible members in the community. According to American School Counseling Association, (2017) the organization issues research, publications and professional development to school counselors worldwide so as to provide them with important information to lead their students. The main aim for professional counsellors around the world is to give their students the best guidance they can offer while they are under their care. According toAmerican School Counseling Association, (2017) states that the students cannot thrive on academics alone and therefore they need to be guided on life issues and their emotional development. ASCA is part of the school program entitled to bring up successful students in terms of moral behaviors and also helping them to become all-rounded individuals in future.
American School Counseling Association (2017) acknowledges that ASCA membership provides not only provide peer networking and periodicals but also helps the individual develop professionally and grow personally. The American School Counseling Association has a vision which is to transform the modern youth into the leaders of tomorrow and therefore through the experience from ASCA, people are able to share common visions with other school professionals worldwide and also benefit from their research. American School Counseling Association, (2017) suggests that the school counselors have various roles to the community and the students which include; first the counselors prepare the mindset of students to the society and business related environments. The counselors teach the students the aspect of perseverance and resilience, skills and a better understanding of life. Moreover, the counselors communicate with school administration on how they can prepare the students for post-secondary encounters and life readiness. Secondly, the counselors communicate with the public advising them on how to treat the young people who are in need of guidance in order to live in accordance to the society.
